The standard

Sheep preparation and buyer confidence.

Every sheep is sorted, prepared, and handled to the buyer's requirements before it leaves the farm. The standard checklist:

  • Fully sorted into even, matched groups
  • Uddered and carefully checked
  • Wormed
  • Fluked
  • Mineral drenched
  • Professionally dipped in Cooper's dip
  • Vaccinated against blue tongue as standard, plus any other vaccines required
  • Crutched
  • Shorn
  • Any additional medication or preventative treatment requested by the buyer
  • Full tag list with every load
  • All livestock delivered on our own lorries

Buyer confidence comes down to detail. We make sure the sheep arrive exactly as described and ready for their new farm.

Blue tongue

Vaccinated as standard.

Blue tongue is one of the biggest disease challenges facing the UK sheep industry, and it is still spreading. John treats vaccination as part of the job rather than an extra. Every animal sold by John Wood Livestock leaves the farm vaccinated against Blue tongue, at no additional cost to the buyer:

  • Store lambs
  • Breeding sheep
  • Breeding rams

It protects the flock you're buying into and helps limit the spread across the trade. Responsible farming, sound livestock, and nothing added to the invoice for it.

Dipping

Cooper's dip protection.

All sheep can be professionally treated with traditional Cooper's dip. It protects against:

  • Sheep scab
  • Lice
  • Ticks
  • Blowfly strike

Particularly important through the warmer months, and when sheep move onto fresh grazing or mix with an existing flock. Good dipping keeps the flock healthy and saves the buyer trouble down the line.

Worming, fluking, drenching

Carried out responsibly.

Treatments are done by the book:

  • Reduces internal parasite burdens
  • Helps prevent liver fluke
  • Improves condition and thrive
  • Supports fertility and overall health
  • Helps sheep settle quickly after arrival
  • Gives buyers peace of mind when introducing new stock
